JDM enthusiasts, attention please! Todays "Car of the Week" is the Nissan C110 Skyline GT-R. The mother of todays GT-R's / Skyline's.
With more than 670,000 sold units the also called "Ken and Mary" Skyline was a full success in the 1970's.
Assembled in Musashimurayama, Japan the sedan and coupe were designed by Shinichiro Sakurai. The 4,46 m long and 1,39 m high model was also called Datsun 160K, 180K or 240K.
The round rear lights were featured for the first time at the C110 and are typical for all the following Skyline's.
Why "Ken & Mary" or "Kenmeri" (ケンメリ)? In Japan there was a highly successful ad campaign witch featured Ken and Mary, a young cople who enjoyed their tima at the Country in Ken and Mary's Skyline (ケンとメリーのスカイライン).
Cause of the oil crisis in 1972/1973 there were only 197 GT-Rs through specialist Nissan Performance shops (before it was called NISMO).
These following models were available:
* 1600 – 1.6 L G16 I4
* 1800 – 1.8 L G18 I4
* 2000GT-X – 2.0 L L20A I6, 130 hp (96 kW, 172 N m)
* 2000GT-R – 2.0 L S20 I6, 160 hp (118 kW, 180 N m) (same as the model car!)
