Car of the Week: Audi Avus quattro

Hey Guys
After almost a thousand years now again a "Car of the Week" here, Yeeaahh!!
But today it's not a model car it's 1:1 this time, the W12 concept car Audi Avus quattro that I've seen at the Audi Forum in Ingolstadt this May.
... something shiny for a cold, grey and rainy Sunday Evening. Hope it's brightening your mood a bit! ;-)

First introduced to the public at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1991 the Avus quattro is now displayed at Audis museum mobile in Ingolstadt.

The concept Car, which was designed by the famous american designer J Mays, who works nowadays for the Ford Motor Company and was responsible for inter alia the exterior of the 5- and 8-series BMW's in the 1980s or the Volkswagen New Beetle in the 1990s, set a stone for the later Design of the Audi TT.

But the Avus was more than just a Design Concept Car. With its 6.0 L W 12 502 HP (374 kW) engine it was years ahead of the actual development, thats why it had a plastic/wooden engine replacement at its Presentation in Tokyo. Years later the A8 got "that" W12 engine, when the powertrain was now finally available for mass production.

With a complete aluminium body, which made the Avus safe and light, it should have reached a maximum speed of 417 km/h (259 mph) and a 0-100 km/h (0- 60 mph) in about 3 seconds thanks to its kerb weight of just 1250 kilograms.
