Hey Guys
Kinda a Surprise, but a vintage Porsche 911 was never the "Car of the Week" before, so, let's change that!
(There have been the Porsche 356 and Porsche 997 GT3 RS as well as the Porsche 550 Spyder)
But No kidding, my heart immediately skipped a beat when I discovered this Maisto Model Car at the €uroshop (you get there everything for just 1 Euro). Of course I had to give this sparkling blue dream on 4 wheels a new home and bought it!
You might ask yourself why I used a flash everytime I shot the Pictures above and beneth … the nice sparkling effect just comes out in the dark when light hits it. That's why ;-)
Well, the Porsche 911, is there any more ICONIC Car? Okay, the VW Käfer, maybe, but a Vintage 911 is definitely on every wishlist of Car enthusiasts all over the world.
Introduced back in autumn 1963, and built until 1989, the 901, as it was internally called, was designed by Ferdinand Porsche, son of Ferry (Ferdinand) Porsche. Erwin Komenda, leader of the body construction department, was in involved in the Design as well. In comparision to its Predecessor, the Porsche 356), the 911 was more powerful, larger and more comfortable as well. Even it had 4 seats it's more or less a 2+2 for 2 adults plus 2 weekender-bags and a little Dog. The first 911 featured a 130hp (96 kW) flat-6 engine (air-cooled, rear-mounted).
In 1966, with the even more powerful 911S (160 PS / 120 kW) the famous Fuchs alloy wheels were offered for the first time. Even my model car has wheels in a 3-leaf design (5 are original)! In 1967 the first targa-(shield in Italian)-911 followed. There have been a few models of the 911, the entry level was always the T, the midrange E and the top line S.
The maybe greatest 911 of all time is the 1973/1974 Porsche Carrera RS with its "ducktail" rear spoiler. In total there were 1580 models of the Carrera 2.7 RS made. The Carrera RSRS turbo entered the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1974 and became second.
Also in 1974 Porsche introduced the first turbocharged 911 - Porsche turbo in Europe and Porsche 930 in North America. A 2.1 L RSR turbo even won Le Mans in 1974.
In 1980 Porsche offered a "Weissach special edition" (Porsche's research center is located in the Swabian City Weissach, near Stuttgart). The 911 SC was available in two colors, including a whale tail and front chin spoiler. And of course the fuchs alloy wheels on top!
Even today the 911 (neunelfer in german) is more than a classic and collectable masterpiece! (..but just when you have your mid-life crisis, are a doctor, or both :P)
